Wonderful Swing Set
By Beabea
We bought this about four years ago, and our children and their friends have really enjoyed it. The support frame is made out of metal tubing and is very strong. I really like the metal set since there is no wood to splinter or fade. I suppose it is a matter of personal taste in choosing wood versus metal. The roof to the club house is made out of hard plastic and the deck is made out of non-slip plastic. There is also a play ship wheel and binoculars in the clubhouse along with a metal chalk board. The slide is eight feet long. The climbing wall is made of plastic and is fun to climb. There is also a rope ladder, two swings and a trapeze. It took two people who are not very handy about eight hours to put this together. The parts came well organized and the instructions were easy to follow. The majority of the assembly work is simply bolting sections together. Most fasteners are allen bolts so it helps to have a cordless drill with a allen bit. The play set is free standing so you do not need to anchor it in place. In the summer we lift up the end of the slide and put it in a cheap inflatable pool. The kids go down the slide and into the pool. This is a lot of fun. The set is available in two color schemes - earth-tone and primary color (red, yellow and blue).

You can look at the installation instructions on line at lifetime dot com. Also, go to YouTube to find a video of the swing set.

Overall I highly recommend this. I bought this at Costco and paid about two thousand dollars plus shipping. It has really held up well to heavy use.

May 2013 Update - We bought this in 2006, and seven years later we still really enjoy it. I did a little bit of touch-up painting this year because there were three small areas where the paint started to flake off. It only took about 5 minutes to scrape, sand and paint so that's not bad. About three years ago I replaced the swings. The coating on the chain for the swings started to get tacky on hot days so I found two replacement swings on Amazon. Each year in the spring I take a few minutes to snug up the bolts, but that's about it for maintenance.

CAUTION: Manufacturer-Known Problem Can Cause BIG HEADACHES!!
By Dan Huse
Given all the superlative reviews of this play set on both Amazon and a major warehouse club website, I expected this play set to be nearly faultless. My actual experience was different, as was the experience of one of my work colleagues who bought the same play set for his kids. When he assembled the play set, he ran into troubles with the cargo net being too tight to stretch over all the hooks required to secure the net. He chose to defer assembly until he received a free replacement cargo net from Lifetime. He was otherwise pleased with the play set, except that he later shared with me that he was missing a piece of hardware to secure the play binoculars. I figured his problem with the cargo net was just bad luck. As it turns out, this is a more widespread problem. I say this because I ran into the same problem while assembling the play set in our back yard, and upon researching the issue online, I found that many other customers have had this same problem. When I called Customer Service at Lifetime, they knew exactly the problem I was experiencing, and they didn't question be at all about sending out a free replacement. However, when I asked them why they just kept letting this happen to customers, rather than proactively fixing the problem before people get into the assembly, the person told me that they didn't know where all the bad nets were located in the market. Hence, they were just waiting for customers to call them. I am a marketer by profession, and I know there are ways to correct defective products that have been shipped already. Sure, it isn't cheap, but it is the right thing to do, especially when somebody is paying $1500+ for a play set. Assembling this play set in exactly the order of the instructions is critical. Skipping a step, which was my approach when the cargo net did not fit, led to a huge hassle a couple of weeks later when I got back to the fully assembled play set with the new cargo net and had to partially disassemble it to get the cargo net added. Why should I be required to invest extra time and energy into disassembly, just because Lifetime did not want to invest the money to fix their problem? I think this is extremely poor customer service. I told the rep that I felt this way, and she said that she would make note of it. Great. I don't know what that gets me, but she has made note of it.

Aside from the issue with the cargo net, I did run into a few other minor issues, such as screws that were far too big for the pre-drilled holes in the climbing wall. Even with a power driver, I could not get the screws to turn. Therefore, I ended up having to drill out the holes with a bigger bit before installing the screws.

There are a few other tricks to setting up this play set successful. Be aware that leveling the play set is important, in order to have all the legs rest on the ground properly and keep the playset properly balanced. Few people, I would suspect, have perfectly level ground. My strategy was to leave the ground alone and dig down, where necessary, to lower some of the legs below ground level. I thought this would make things more stable than trying to build up the ground under other legs. In the end, my strategy worked great, except that it was very time consuming and tedious. I used a level to ensure that everything was just right as the construction progressed.

In the end, this is a beautiful play set that will be the envy of the neighborhood, especially when your neighbors are staining their wooden play sets and dealing with splinters from aging wood. This play set is rock solid, and I expect it to stand the test of time. Still, I get irritated every time I think about the hassles I went through due to the defective cargo net. Hopefully, for your sake, they have this issue resolved. However, if I knew somebody buying one of these, I would suggest that the person call and complain about the net before even knowing if the net is bad. That way, one could be certain to have a decent net before starting the project. The cost of the faulty nets should be beared by Lifetime, not the customer, even if it means they have to send out a new net to everybody. Just my opinion.

Best playscape for your money!
By Kate Geesaman
Wonderfully designed and made playscape. It is very sturdy and will be strong enough for all your kids and the neighbor's kids. We are looking forward to many years of fun on this! My husband spent about 14 hours putting this together with another helper for about 2 of those hours and I helped with a couple of the bigger pieces. I'm glad we didn't waste our money on a wood playscape that needs maintenance and will only last a few years. Definitely a good buy!
