Darth Tater Escapes the Grater
By Spudman
In a distinct galaxy of spuds just below the crust of our Earth he lay dormant since 1977 patiently awaiting his time. Lucas hard as you would, he was not to be seen or found. Yet. The world now welcomes this newest, freshest reincarnation of the famous vegetable man, still relevant after all these years, who emerging from the dark sighed, "Luke, I am your fodder."

A few years ago a neighbor gifted me with a Mr. Potato Head, Darth Tater. It was quite a chore to remove him from the molded plastic packaging. A note inside advises that adults should remove and discard plastic fasteners. This is good advice because a child would be hard pressed to penetrate the plastic shield and get at the potato man.

Darth Tater stands approximately 7 ½" tall , weighing 11.1 hard, muscular ounces. His generous girth measures 13 inches around and he's been only one cannoli from adding to his round figure. Darth Tater looks fierce and resplendent with his all black ensemble of hat, mask, cape, gloved arms and feet. His red, translucent light saber contrasts nicely with the black.

In the rear of Darth Tater one can open his hinged bun door to access storage inside his hollow body. This recess can be home to the extra parts included with this "toy, " pink ears, white teeth, a red tongue, and a red nose. Playskool suggests that the purchaser or recipient of this Mr. Potato Head create funny faces. "Use your imagination to create all sorts of wacky looks.

Four different variations are pictured on the cardboard insert, but with the dearth of extra pieces there aren't many more possibilities. With pieces available from other Mr. Potato Heads, one is limited only by his or her imagination.

My Darth Tater will remain, as he is, a spud in black, standing proudly on display in between Pirate Potato Head and Toy Story Potato Head. Pleased just to have him as part of my collection, I neither needed nor wanted extra body parts, but to function as an exercise in imagination and creativity, Darth Tater should have been given more extra parts. I like the touch of silver on his mask and saber, and the details given his hands and arms. On my spud the arm holding the saber doesn't fit snugly and is not easy to position.

This is a great item for a collector, and I almost wish I'd left this tater in the original packaging to keep him pristine. If you buy this to entertain a young child for long periods of time, you probably should have a backup toy in case this star bores.

If you love Star Wars, this is a must
By R. B.
Yep, got it for my wife for her birthday and it was better than the camera I got her. It is so out of the norm that she totally loved it and she is not a big Star Wars fan but this got her funny bone. Quality seems standard for a toy from "china"
