Great First RC truck for kids and for older kids as well ;)

This one is my boys favorite RC and in part for two main reasons. One, it is Grave digger :) and two it pops wheelies! Fun aside the great thing about Traxxas RC products is that they are built to last with a proven design. Parts are inexpensive and easy to find on the internet and at your local hobby store.

This two wheel drive is a good place to start because it is mechanically easy to work on as opposed to a 4WD version. I jump this truck all the time and reach heights of 10ft and distances of 20ft, no joke!

I don't recommend upgrading parts to aluminum for kids use. When you do the part will hold but usually cause something else to brake that is harder to fix. If you keep the A arms stock than if you take a 20ft jump and brake one it is cheap and easy to fix.

I do recommend a couple accessories that will make the truck even more enjoyable
1) LED lights. Who wouldn't like these?

2) A LiPo battery upgrade. Don't get me wrong with the stock battery the truck is fun but just doesn't last like a LiPo battery. In addition the stock NiMH battery will not hold a charge on the shelf, so if you grab the truck you will have to charge the battery first ... with a LiPo you grab it and go. In addition LiPo batteries charge faster, take about 45 min or so. Here is an affordable kit that will speed the truck up AND I get run times of over 45 min of fun!

I will stop my review here though I could go on. In the end I recommend this truck for bashing in the yard, in the grass, on dirt, and simply for loads of fun!

UPDATE: One of you marked this review as helpful which motivated me to include one more tip. Most don't know that depending on how you drive the RC (full throttle all the time or just cruising) the motor may get hot to the point you may prematurely shorten the motor. The fact is with all RCs you should constantly watch the temperature of the motor. This can be done with a temperature gun and make sure it doesn't get hotter than 180F OR you can use the rule that if you cannot hold your finger on the motor for 5 seconds than its too hot and let it cool.

If your driving style is pushing the limits of the motor than a simple heat sink fin will help a lot Bastens 540 550 560 can ( 35mm O/D Inrunner) size Aluminum side mount silver heatsink fin - fits 1/10 & 1/16 scale including the Traxxas models

i really enjoy this truck. i got it and had to drive it the next day. i liked how it looked and it handles well. i also upgraded it to brushless for more power and really love the truck. i would highly recommend this to someone thats a beginner and or that just loves the look of a cool monster truck. traxxas is a great company and puts out some really cool things

Great deal

These modern "entry level" 1/10 R/C's are so far ahead of the Tamiya and Kyosho stuff I remember from the 80's and early 90's. I did manage to break the servo saver after a full speed curb check, but that was completely my fault (try not to drive these on the street, too much damage can happen). I bought this thing to get my 7 year old daughter into R/C since thats what I dug when I was a kid. I'll be purchasing another Monster Jam soon so we can cruise together.

Great truck, tons of aftermarket support, fast and durrable. You cant go wrong.
