Love the device, hated the shipping
By John W. Martin
Finally got this in the mail yesterday and I am thrilled with the overall quality of the replica. The audio could perhaps be a little bit more clear but the lights are great and everything else is spot on. But with a collectable like this, it is important to have a box that is kept just as perfect. That was impossible the way NECA and Amazon shipped the device. NECA started off by shipping it to Amazon just in the retail box. No packing box of any kind and stickers all over it. Amazon followed suit, sticking their stickers over top of the ones that had shipped it to them. By the time it was all over, there are several rough marks, lightly ripped and punched in corners and it's a miracle the thing even held up at all. Let alone if one person knew what the item was that was in the shipping process and was less than honest? It's gone. PLEASE do a better job shipping the P-body device.

A fantastic item, but good luck getting one.

The famous Portal Gun is the most requested item in existence to be made into a replica of some kind. There are many walks through in how to make your own, but NECA has finally made authentic replicas for sale..... But unfortunately they only released 5000 of them, and almost all of them were restricted to second party websites that shipped almost exclusively to the US which is the biggest insult to injury any Portal fan can get if they don't live in America.

If you're only now just hearing about this chances are its too late to get one from a second party seller, which leads me to address something you should all be aware of. Around a third of these guns were bought by people who purchased 2 of them, and almost all those people have decided to sell them on eBay for WAY more than the guns are really worth. The standard retail price is $140 (I got mine for $200 of Amazon with express shipping) and ever third party seller is selling these for $500+ some even as high as $1600. If you're absolutely desperate to get one and you don't care about price, be ready to fork out most of your savings, otherwise BE AWARE THAT NECA HAS ANNOUNCED THAT THEY ARE RELEASING REPLICAS OF THE CO-OP PORTAL GUNS, so if you'd like to get one of those sit tight, otherwise you'd have to fork out a lot to get one of the ones I got.

The gun itself is beautifully designed, measuring at almost 30 inches with the claws fully extended. It's made completely out of plastic (further adding that $140 is the only appropriate price) as such it does feel like a big toy, and the plastic creeks and groans as plastic does. Although its very sturdy and well built, with the exception of the claws being a bit fidgety.

As you can see in the photo the thing looks amazing all lit up, it even has red LED's in the claws. It switches easily between blue and orange, both sets of LED's being very bright and clear, the blue being brighter then orange though. In addition to just lighting up pulling the trigger also makes the gun play the sound of the gun firing, which is actually amplified by the shape of the plastic in the body. The sound is loud and clear, and you can even rapid fire for a bit of fun. Seriously, who HASN'T done that in the game?

The box and packaging is really the only downside to this thing (A very minor downside) as the box has scuffs and holes in it, apparently every box is like that although for the life of me I can't understand why. Apparently NECA can't handle their own stock very well. If you want one with the box in perfect condition, suck it up, them's the brakes and that's just how it is. The gun itself is in perfect nic though, being kept in foam inserts and plastic wrap, and there are no scratches on the gun that I can see.

In closing the gun is amazing, it just bugs the hell out of me that NECA would purposely tease the heck out of us with the most wanted replica of all time, then almost exclusively give it to the Americans. As I said they have announced they're releasing replicas of the co-op guns due to the vast amount of hate mail they received, so hopefully those guns will be far more widely available than these ones were.

Now if you excuse me, I'm off to do some science :D

Best Game Replica
By Sean "Elite2547"
This is an awesome replica that is sturdily built. Price is a factor and I wouldn't spend more than the original retail price ($140) to get it. The sound isn't the best quality but it is loud and features different sound effects for each color (blue & orange). The weight is heavy enough for it to be held in one hand comfortably and it doesn't need a stand to be displayed on a flat surface, it uses the lower two claws to rest on and stay stable. However since Neca Toys is making more (one 5,000 run for each co-op robot of Atlas and Peabody) the price should drop.
