Start of a great figure, but needs a new hairdo

This Mara figure has gotten a lot of flack on the internet for her hairdo. Her hair, while well sculpted, sits high on her head and looks puffy (a very 1980s style). A lot of those concerns are warranted, but there are also a lot of positive points to this figure.

Mara has a lot of articulation, including ankle, waist, and even torso. More importantly, unlike the recent Padme figure, the elbow joints are molded in flesh color so they're very well hidden. I think Hasbro did a great job with her face and facial features, except her eyebrows, which are a bit too big.

The accessories are great. She comes with a purple lightsaber (not red as in the photo), unlit hilt, blaster, and blaster holster. The holster can be attached to her hip or her back. I love that we get a choice!

Overall, I wish Hasbro had gotten the hair down right, but I don't think that ruins the figure. This is definitely the best version of Mara Jade thus far, but there's also a lot of room for improvement.

DON'T PAY MORE THAN $10!

This is a great figure - but don't fall for people selling her for crazy prices. It hasn't even been widely released yet. Once it is, it will be here on Amazon and in regular stores like every other Black Series figure for $10. Wait a couple of weeks and you will pay 1/4 the price.

Not quite lived up to my expectations

The Black Series Mara Jade action figure has been on my list of must get action figures ever since I saw it pics of it last year. The Black Series of Star Wars action figures have been quite good IMO but I will list the good and bad points.

Bad: The height. Mara isn't in scale to Luke, she's actually taller thanks in part to her hair which is very thick on top giving Mara a big hair 80's look. Her boots are also too long, but this wouldn't be a problem if her hair wasn't poofy. Also the way Hasbro packaged her be careful of her right arm if you open the package b/c it might be loose & fall off if you're replacing or putting a weapon in her hand. I wish Hasbro would keep the limbs straight in package. Less damage to the figure if you choose to open it.

The good: The face sculpt is excellent & resembles Shannon McRandle the actress/model who posed as Mara for the card games. The body sculpt is also quite good, capturing her description as a former dancer quite well. Having elbows that bend rather than swivel is a welcome improvement over the one released in 2007. Plus she comes with her small blaster & not the big hulking gun her 2007 counterpart had. Another plus is her removable holster which can fit on her back or on her hip. Her light saber is not Luke's light saber he lost at Bespin & gave to her at the end of the Last Command but one she had either before the Heir to The Empire novel or one she builds after Vision of the Future. Its purple so Mace Windu is no longer the only Jedi with a purple light saber. The paint apps are smooth, and I like that Mara's hair is red & not orange like her previous figure. Props to Hasbro on that & the accessories.

In all I give this 3 out of 5 stars. I think Hasbro could really improve on this action figure so I doubt we'll see the last of Mara Jade. If you love the EU you'll want this for your collection but I leave it to you if you open it or not.

If you do want to customize her here is my advice: The boots from the old figure are too small for the legs & will slip out. I would recommend taking a Scarlet head from the GI Joe vs Cobra movie and cutting the neck down until her head fits. Then glue the head on, or reattach the head ball on the neck. That way Mara is more accurate in height & proportioned to the rest of your Star Wars action figures.
